Chastain Horse Park occupies 13 acres of the City of Atlanta's Troy Chastain Memorial Park. The original Buckhead stables, built in 1939, had reached the end of their days by 1997, when Amy C. Lance decided to revive the glory that had belonged to the historic landmark facility in past decades. She founded the premier nonprofit equestrian facility to serve the community through therapeutic programs for students with mental or physical disabilities, programs for children from the inner-city and children at-risk, boarding services and riding lessons for the general public, and other equestrian activities and events to encourage community use of Chastain Horse Park. After extensive redevelopment, Chastain Horse Park re-opened in the summer of 1999. Click here to view a video of the re-birth of historic Chastain Horse Park. Today Chastain Horse Park stands proudly as one of Atlanta's finest equestrian facilities, located in the heart of a powerful and diverse business and recreational community. The Buckhead site's proximity to established residential areas and schools dictates its importance as an influential asset to the area. The horse park includes four barns and four arenas serving the equestrian programs, and a Clubhouse which houses offices, banquet facilities, a tack shop, and photography studio. Barn managers reside on the premises. As Christopher Reeve, actor/activist and 1999's Miracles Happen guest of honor, stated: 'Chastain Horse Park will be a monument to the fact that our cities must be more than brick and glass and sidewalks. There must be a variety of life going on inside.'In 1999, the Development Authority of Fulton County awarded their "Economic Development Award for Excellence in Business" to Chastain Horse Park. Privately operated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Chastain Horse Park relies on the community for volunteer and funding support. Donations are 100% tax-deductible as allowed by law.
