Chastain Stables opens in Atlanta-owned Chastain Park*
1950's The city decides to lease operation of the stables to private operators.
1982 Atlanta Parks Department hires Robert and Shirley Crawford to run stables. They form the Crawford Center for Therapeutic Horsemanship.
September 1996 Crawfords move out; stables close.
October 1997 Atlanta City Council approves Amy Lance's proposal to rebuild stables.
June 1998 Stables are razed; construction begins.
July 1999 Fulton County approves $2,700,000 privately placed bond issue to finance improvements at Chastain stables. Lance launches pilot outreach program. First boarding horses arrive.
August 1999 Riding lessons and therapeutic riding programs begin.
